Where It Began

A local barbershop that takes the work seriously

Maverick Male Grooming opened its doors in Ilford in 2018. The idea wasn't complicated: a proper barbershop, run by people who are genuinely good at what they do, in a part of east London that had no shortage of demand and not enough quality options.

We started with one barber, a rented chair, and a short list of services. Word spread the way it tends to in communities like Ilford — slowly at first, then consistently. Clients came back. They brought brothers, fathers, sons. Some of those clients still visit today.

Six years on, we've grown the team, expanded the service list, and moved into our current space on Chelmsford Gardens. The core of what we do hasn't changed: take the work seriously, treat people well, and produce consistently good results.

Clean Station Between Every Client

Each workstation is cleared and wiped down between every appointment. No exceptions.

Sterilised Tools

All blades, clippers, and scissors are sanitised using professional-grade sterilisation product between every use.

Fresh Gowns

Gowns and neck strips are fresh for each client. We don't reuse anything that makes direct contact with skin.

Six Years in Ilford

From a single chair to a full team — the short version of how Maverick grew.

2018

Maverick Opens

Founded in Ilford by Marcus Adesanya with a single barber's chair and a clear focus on quality over volume.

2019

First Team Expansion

Added the first junior barber, expanding capacity and allowing more walk-in availability during peak hours.

2020

Community Support During COVID

Temporarily closed during lockdowns, but offered grooming guidance online and supported local community food initiatives throughout.

2021

Moved to Current Premises

Relocated to 4 Chelmsford Gardens — a larger, purpose-fitted space allowing for expanded services and a more comfortable waiting area.

2023

Premium Services Introduced

Launched grooming consultations, scalp care treatments, and the premium grooming package in response to client demand.

2025

Today

A team of four barbers and grooming specialists, serving over 2,800 clients and continuing to grow through word of mouth and repeat business.

Community

Rooted in Ilford

Ilford is a diverse, working community and we're part of it in a meaningful way. We hire locally, and we make a point of being accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds. Our pricing reflects the local market, not a West End premium.

We've run occasional free grooming sessions for young people in the area through local youth programmes, and have sponsored local football teams through kit contributions. These aren't marketing exercises — they're things we do because we're part of the area.
