The People Behind the Work

Meet Our Team

Every person on our team brings something different to the chair — experience, style, and a genuine interest in helping clients look and feel their best.

Founder & Master Barber

Marcus Reid

Marcus opened Maverick Male Grooming in 2018 after spending over a decade working in barbershops across London. His background covers everything from classic wet shaves to contemporary skin fades, and he's spent years studying the techniques that genuinely stand the test of time.

Growing up in East London, Marcus noticed there was a gap between the quick-turnaround barbershops that dominated the high street and the higher-end salons that often felt uncomfortable for the average bloke. He wanted to create somewhere that offered quality without pretension — a shop where men could get an excellent cut, have a proper conversation, and leave feeling better than when they walked in.

Outside the shop, Marcus is involved in local mentorship programmes that help young people enter the trade. He believes the barbering profession deserves more respect than it typically gets, and tries to demonstrate that through the standard of work he holds himself to every day.

"A good haircut isn't a luxury. It's a basic part of taking care of yourself, and it should be available to everyone without it being a stressful experience."

How We Work

What the Whole Team Shares

Individual styles, shared standards. A few things every person on this team is committed to, regardless of their role.

Listening First

A consultation isn't a formality. Understanding what a client actually wants avoids a lot of problems and leads to consistently better results.

Hygiene Standards

Tools are sterilised between every client. The shop is cleaned throughout the day. This is a baseline requirement, not an optional extra.

Respecting Your Time

Appointments run to schedule as a rule. When there are unavoidable delays, clients are notified in advance. We don't waste people's afternoons.

Keeping Skills Current

The team regularly attends training courses, trade shows, and workshops. Grooming and barbering evolve — we try to keep pace with that.
